We are part of a generation that picks apart an article for the one word that offends us. A society that believes authentic interactions come from a tiny computer in our hand. We are surrounded by individuals who lean into anxiety.
Humans tend to overcomplicate situations.
Life isn’t black and white – but it could be simpler. In order to get there, we have to understand why we make things so difficult.
- We love control.
We believe we know best & think our idea of perfection outweighs another’s. Our ideas are not law – our ideas are flawed beyond compare because we are broken individuals. Be willing to loosen up and learn from someone else’s wisdom.
- We are defensive by nature.
It is in our DNA to defend – our loved ones, our words, our actions. We go to battle to prove why we are correct, but by doing that we willingly turn from peace. Don’t be afraid to say you were wrong & let the situation go.
- We aren’t great with humility.
Humans are self-centered by nature & we seek validation for the circumstances we face on a daily basis. It takes strength to refocus on someone besides ourself. Viewing the world through a lens of humility is a choice. Make that choice and it will reveal the simplicity of our problems and opens us up to help others.
Steven Furtick said “You cannot breathe the air of anxiety and expect to live in an atmosphere of peace.” We must learn to embrace the simplicity of peace, even when the world is fighting against it.
Be wise – don’t make something out of nothing.
